PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) Multiple casualties, injuries, and a two-alarm fire have been reported at a plasma donation center on the North Side.
The cause of the incident is cited as a vehicle slamming into 1330 Western Avenue.
Three people were confirmed dead, including one person in the vehicle that hit the building.
It is uncertain if the casualties were workers or patients at the center.
The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. and it is reported that three people have died, one has been transported to a hospital in critical condition.
A paramedic and two firefighters were also transported for smoke inhalation.
It is uncertain what exactly caused the casualties as there was also a structural collapse within the building.
At least one person, a patient from in the building, was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The condition of the driver, or if there was a motive, is unknown.
The car reportedly reached a speed of about 100 mph before slamming into the building, reaching up to 200 feet into the building.
Crews prepared the situation as a "mass casualty incident" plan because they were uncertain of the extent of the damage and how many may have died.
Authorities are attempting to salvage what they can of the plasma center's stored blood.
It is expected there will be a "lengthy investigation" from the incident, Pittsburgh Collision Investigation Unit is on the scene.
Security cameras in the area will be used in the investigation.
People are asked to remain away from the area while investigations are underway.
