Check your freezer! About 58 million pounds of corn dogs and sausage-on-a-stick products are being recalled across the U.S. due to potential wood contamination in the batter.
The recall covers select "State Fair Corn Dogs on a Stick" and "Jimmy Dean Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick" products from Hillshire Brands, a subsidiary of Tyson Foods, after multiple consumer complaints and injuries were reported.
Wood splinters were introduced into the batter when sticks were accidentally crushed inside, and the contamination issue was discovered after Hillshire received consumer complaints. Five people were reportedly injured by wood in the coating.
In their notice of the recall, the FSIS said: "The Hillshire Brands Company conducted an investigation and determined that the wooden sticks entered the production process prior to product battering."
The recalled products were produced between March 17 and as recently as Friday at a facility in Haltom City, Texas, and may be in consumers' refrigerators, freezers, schools, and other institutions. They were delivered across the country.
Consumers are advised to check the product's name, use by dates, and identifying information online to determine if they have the recalled products. See the FULL LIST HERE.
If you have one of these products or have questions, contact The Hillshire Brands Company at 888-747-7611 for more information. They can be returned for a refund.
