According to a memorandum released Saturday by the White House, U.S. President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19 again after testing negative for days.
“After testing negative on Tuesday evening, Wednesday morning, Thursday morning and Friday morning, the President tested positive again late Saturday morning,” said the letter from White House physician Kevin C. O’Connor.
“This fact represents ‘rebound’ positivity.”
O’Connor said that some patients treated with the Paxlovid pill, such as Biden, experience rebound cases of the illness caused by the SARS CoV-2 virus. While Biden tested positive, the physician said the president has not had a reemergence of symptoms and “continues to feel quite well.”
Biden completed a five-day course of Paxlovid Monday night. Biden previously tested positive July 21 and reported symptoms that included a runny nose, fatigue and occasional dry cough.
Since there are currently no symptoms, O’Connor said there is no reason to treat the president at this time, though observation of his condition will continue as well as strict isolation procedures.
