PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) The United States Drug Enforcement Agency announced the date for the upcoming National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
The DEA has set the date for Saturday, Oct. 23.
This event is held to address a public safety and health issue that is happening across the country.
According to a 2019 survey, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million misused prescription supplements, and 5.9 million have misused perscrption tranquilizers or sedatives.
The DEA's Take Back Day provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent addiction and overdoses.
In Pittsburgh, there will be multiple locations around the city anyone can take their prescription or over the counter drugs.
Drop-off boxes will be located outside of each of the six Pittsburgh Police zone stations as well as the bureau headquarters.
The public can safely dispose of unwanted or expired medications.
The boxes will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
