As America prepares for another round of Trump vs. Biden, some less popular candidates could be in for a team-up in an effort to sway Americans to something new.

Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips (D) joined News Talk 830 WCCO on Thursday to discuss his presidential campaign, which has struggled to take off with Democrats flocking to President Joe Biden despite concerns over his health.

“At [Biden’s] stage in life, and frankly at Donald Trump’s stage in life, these are not men actuarially positioned to ably lead our country into the future. And neither of them will be around living in that future,” Phillips said.

Phillips shared that there are several issues plaguing our nation right now, and he says those who are obsessed with staying in power and refusing to speak out are one of them.

The Minnesota Democrat says that he has “torpedoed” his career in Congress to “be honest with people” about the president and what Phillips says is an inability to serve another term.

“There is no political reward for telling people the truth. There is no political reward for principal, and there is no political reward for [saying the] quiet part out loud,” Phillips said.

Phillips praised some of his fellow Democrats and even some Republicans who he says have taken similar routes, naming former Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney and former South Carolina Gov. and GOP candidate Nikki Haley.

“I’m very disappointed in many of my Democratic colleagues for their unwillingness to say out loud what they are all talking about in private,” Phillips said.

When it comes to who Phillips would pick to run with him on the upcoming ballot, he said that he would consider a team-up with Nikki Haley, offering Americans something they rarely see: bipartisanship.

Phillips said that the two could give Americans, for the first time in the country’s history, “cooperation, collaboration, participation, decency, [and] common sense.”

When asked if he would run on an independent ticket with Haley as her VP, Phillips said, “I think it’s a conversation Haley and I should have.”
