Folds of Honor has been known as a life-changing organization for families of fallen or disabled U.S. service members.
Now, under a new mission, they plan on expanding to more than just military personnel.
It was announced on Sept. 12 that Fold of Honor will now include first responders as part of their mission.
Luke Sherman is Senior Vice President, Outreach for Folds of Honor.
After a lengthy and distinguished career in law enforcement, Sherman
joined Folds of Honor. He was the guest of Rick Dayton on KDKA Radio
to talk about inclusion of First Responders' families as potential
recipients of Folds of Honor scholarship dollars.
Families of the 2 million Police officers, fire fighters, EMTs, and paramedics across the United States can now get involved with the organization.
"This move reflects our purpose to meet sacrifice with hope," Folds of Honor Founder and CEO Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney said. "The decision to launch our first responder scholarships is in reverence to those who paid the ultimate price on September 11th, 2001. The following day was a defining moment in our history, as Americans responded to tragedy by putting differences aside, rallying together, and standing as one. It is our hope that the expanded Folds of Honor mission will inspire unity once again."

Folds of Honor focuses on giving scholarships to the family members of those lost or left disabled from military action.
Anyone hoping to apply for a scholarship, the application window is open from Feb. 1 to March 31 every year.
