MANISTEE COUNTY (WWJ) -- A person walking along the shoreline of Lake Michigan got a startling surprise when they reportedly spotted a human skull.
The Manistee County Sheriff responded to a call that human remains had been found at a beach in Filer Township, which is located just south of Manistee.

According to the Manistee County Medical Examiner, the skull is very old, and likely dates back to a time before the establishment of death records. The examiner also believes the remains are of Native American descent.
The Manistee County Sheriff is working with the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians during the investigation, as they once had a camp near the area where the skull was found.
Further updates will be made available as they are released from the sheriff’s office.
