International authorities have issued a global alert for the missing University of Pittsburgh student.
Authorities in Sudiksha Konanki's home county of Loudoun, Va., requested the alert.
Interpol, the International Criminal Police Organization, issues yellow notices for victims of unexplained disappearances or potential kidnappings.
The notices generally come at the request of law enforcement in one of Interpol’s nearly 200-member countries.
The 20-year-old pre-med student vanished March 6 from the beach near the Punta Cana resort where she and five friends arrived days earlier.
The FBI and Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday named a “person of interest” in the case but stressed that the 22 or 24-year-old American man, who was on vacation in Punta Cana, is not a suspect and the case is not a criminal investigation.
The US Sun reports that person, Joshua Riibe of Iowa, told police he kissed Konanki in the water and saved her from drowning.
Konanki made two Venmo payments the afternoon before she disappeared.
The 20-year-old made the transactions 40 minutes apart on the afternoon of March 5, according to the Sun.
Konanki’s first payment was made to an unspecified user at 2:54 p.m. with only an emoji of a sailboat added to the transaction’s description.
At 3:38 p.m., Konanki then paid a second Venmo user for “coco bongo,” seemingly referencing the popular Punta Cana nightclub.
