In a memoir titled “Going There” set to be released next month, former TV news journalist Katie Couric revealed that Prince Harry stunk of cigarettes and alcohol when she interviewed him nearly a decade ago in Brazil.

The smell seemed to “ooze from every pore,” she said.

Footage from the interview shows Harry dancing in South America while on tour to celebrate his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s 60th jubilee. During the interview, Couric and Prince Harry discussed his grandmother taking on the role of monarch at a young age, his brother Prince William’s 2011 wedding to Kate Middleton and his late mother, Lady Diana Spencer.

According to Newsweek, when Couric met Prince Harry at a polo match in Brazil for the interview, he was in what she called his “wild-oats sowing phase.” He also told Couric in the interview that he wanted to have children and was looking for “the right person” to have a family with.

Harry has since settled down with wife Meghan Markle in California with their two children, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor and Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Along with Couric, he serves on the board of the Aspen Institute Commission on Information Disorder.

Couric’s memoir spans from her childhood and through her career in journalism, which has included positions with NBC – where she worked for 15 years and served as a “Today” show anchor – as well as ABC, CBS and Yahoo! News.

Apart from her memories of Prince Harry’s party days, Couric also shared other revelations in her upcoming book, according to The New York Post.

She said that Martha Stewart needed to go to prison to develop a sense of humor, that she had to push Larry King off of her when he tried to make a move on her and called Tom Werner, her ex-boyfriend and a Today show producer a “textbook narcissist.”

“We’re excited for people to read Katie’s book, which is heartfelt, hilarious and very honest. Readers will get the complete story from Katie herself about her incredible life and career,” a spokesperson for Little, Brown and Company told The New York Post.

“Going There” is scheduled to be published Oct. 26.
