While a 13-year-old girl shopped with her mother Wednesday in a South Carolina Walmart, witnesses were shocked to see a man shoot her in the abdomen.
“She was with her mom, she was actually looking at a pair of shorts and out of nowhere a guy just walked up and shot her and it actually went through her arm and into her abdomen,” said Kari Johnson, according to WJBF.
Johnson was shopping with her husband when they heard the gunshot.
According to a Facebook post from the Aiken Department of Public Safety, officers arrived at Walmart on Whiskey Road for a shooting incident Wednesday. It said there was no danger to the public.
“The suspect has been identified as Stephen Foreman, and he has been charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime,” the department added. “At this time there is no known connection between the victim and the suspect, and no motive is known.”
Records from the Aiken County Sheriff’s department indicate that Foreman, 32, was still in jail as of Saturday.
The Augusta Chronicle reported that the incident occurred at around 7:30 p.m.
and that seven officers responded to the scene.
“They found the victim with gunshot wounds to her arm and abdomen,” said the outlet, citing an incident report. “She was semi-conscious, pale and displaying symptoms of shock.”
First responders applied pressure to her wounds and transported her to a local hospital.
Later, Foreman called police dispatch and told officers he was at a nearby KFC restaurant, said the police report cited by the Chronicle. He told officers he left the gun on a shelf in Walmart.
In 2019, Foreman was previously charged with a kidnapping related to his family, the Chronicle said.
An investigation into the shooting at Walmart remains active and ongoing, said law enforcement Wednesday.
