While handing down sentencing on Wednesday, a Nevada judge was attacked by the defendant she was sentencing after he jumped over the judge’s bench and landed on top of her.

The incident was caught on courtroom video and showed the moments before, during, and after Clark County District Judge Mary Kay Holthus was attacked by 30-year-old Deobra Delone Redden.

After Redden jumped the desk, just after 11 a.m. at the Regional Justice Center in Las Vegas, Holthus fell backward underneath him while court officials and those present fought to tear him off of her.

Eventually, Redden was wrestled to the floor by several court and jail officers and courtroom staff members. Some were even seen throwing punches.

The battle resulted in several injuries, as Holthus suffered minor injuries that didn’t require hospitalization. A courtroom marshal was also injured, suffering a bleeding gash to his forehead and dislocated shoulder, ABC News reported, citing witnesses.

Moments before the incident, Redden had asked for leniency in his sentencing and described himself to the judge as “a person who never stops trying to do the right thing no matter how hard it is.”

“I’m not a rebellious person,” he said in court. “But if it’s appropriate for you, then you have to do what you have to do.”

Redden quickly proved his personal characterization of himself wrong, attacking the judge after she made it clear she intended to put him behind bars.

Redden was once again arrested and jailed at the Clark County Detention Center after being subdued.

Court records show he is now facing new charges of battery on a protected person.
