When is a kiss not just a kiss? When you're a CEO and the person on the other end of the lip lock is your human resources director and you're both married to other people. Oh, and when it just so happens the moment goes viral on video for the world to see.

But an ex-spouse of one of the people in the center of the Coldplay kiss cam scandal came out recently to say not was all as it appeared because the woman in the CEO's arms was officially separated from her husband when it happened. Plot twist!

The woman caught in the smackaroo heard 'round the world -- HR Director Kristin Cabot -- was separated, according to her now soon-to-be-ex-husband Andrew Cabot. He addressed their divorce, saying it didn't happen because of the onscreen kiss.

The couple had been privately separated before the event, Andrew Cabot said, adding that he hopes the divorce filing will provide respectful closure and privacy for their family.

Kristin Cabot filed for divorce in August, but that's not when they had decided to go their separate ways, he revealed. The exes do not have children together. “Their decision to divorce was already underway prior to that evening,” a spokesperson for Andrew, who is the CEO of Privateer Rum, told People Magazine.

The kiss cam incident involving Kristin and Byron led to their resignations from Astronomer, the $1.3 billion software firm where they had worked together since November 2024. Byron's wife removed his surname from her Facebook profile, and later deleted her account. She has not publicly discussed the state of her marriage. He later resigned from his position.

"Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met,” a spokesperson for the company told Us Weekly in a July 19 statement. “Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted."
