(WWJ) Michigan Congresswoman Debbie Dingell is going viral for a loud and heated debate caught on video today on the steps of the U.S. Capitol.
Dingell, a Democrat from Dearborn, emphatically exchanged words with fellow Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, a far-right Republican from Georgia, during a Democratic Caucus press event aimed at pushing President Biden's Infrastructure plan.
During the discussion — described on Twitter as an "epic meltdown" — Dingell accuses Greene of bullying, saying she was heckling throughout event.
During what amounts to a shouting match, the words "Try being a Christian!", "Respect your neighbor!" and "Are you kidding me?" can be heard.
When Dingell trips at one point, Greene tells her: "Watch your step, lady. You're gonna fall down," adding, "Control yourself."
Dingell said debate is healthy, "But you gain nothing by screaming at 150-200 Democrats who are gathered on the Capitol steps, and your sole intent is just to disrupt that press conference."
She told WWJ's Sandra McNeill, "People have a right to gather on the Capitol steps to deliver a message without being disrupted in a bullying way, which is what she was doing. She was trying to bully my colleagues — I was standing there with them — and I just think that we should treat each other with respect, and civilly."
Greene, for her part, said the Democrats at the event "should all be ashamed"; bringing up issues including abortion and the immigration crisis at the border.
Greene, who since taking office has made headlines for odd behavior and bizarre beliefs, in recent months said she regrets promoting Q-anon conspiracy theories and other disinformation.
