The recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which said that the Pillowfort blanket had trapped a 4-year-old and 6-year-old, leading to them dying by asphyxia in North Carolina.

Those who have purchased one of the Pillowfort Weighted Blankets are advised to stop using them and contact Target for a refund.

Including the deaths of the two girls, there have been four reports of children getting trapped after unzipping and entering the blanket, the recall notice shared.

The blankets are made in China and were sold exclusively at Target stores and online from December 2018 to September 2022 for $40. They measure at 60-inches long and 40-inches wide, weigh six-pounds, and have a removable cover.

There are eight different color combinations that the blanket comes in, which can be seen on the CPSC website.

To contact Target for a refund, consumers can go online or call 800-440-0680 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. CST. Target will send customers a prepaid return label to return the blankets by mail, or they can be returned to any Target store.
