White House resignations are rolling in, more expected in 'next 24 hours'

WASHINGTON (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) — The hat first dropped with Melania Trump's chief of staff, Stephanie Grisham, when she quickly resigned on Wednesday.

Grisham was also the former White House communications director and press secretary at one point.

The resignation came in because of the mob invasion at the U.S. Capitol and is effective immediately.

But the buck doesn't stop there.

At least internal expectations are gearing up for even more departures.

Two more official resignations came in on Wednesday night to affirm that notion: White House deputy press secretary Sarah Matthews and White House Social Secretary Rickie Niceta.

Reports of the former's exit came from The Spectator Index via Twitter.

Another potential move could come from Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao; she, too, is considering resigning, according to MSNBC's Kyle Griffin.

And a noteworthy wrinkle to this particular story is that Chao is married to Mitch McConnell.

National security adviser Robert O'Brien, deputy national security adviser Matt Pottinger, and deputy chief of staff Chris Liddell are three other names that are also considering resigning in a report from CNN's Kaitlan Collins.

But what could be the icing on the cake is a report from Maggie Haberman.

According to Haberman's information, sources that are close to Trump himself are expecting an efflux of aides in the White House during the "next 24 hours."

To that last point, and what could be the most damning bellwether of a mass exodus, is a report from The Daily Beast's Asawin Suebsaeng, Erin Banco, Lachlan Markay.

They've reported that administrators are trying to coerce top officials into staying, even if only for the night.

As seen from the few resignations that have already happened, the effort has not been foolproof.

As of the time of writing, no other resignations have been reported, but if the alleged rumblings and rumors manifest further, there could be more positions that ultimately decide to quit.
