Black Friday 2020 is here and it is more important than ever to support local businesses.
What might be just as important this Black Friday, however, is staying safe and cautious as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
The Pennsylvania Department of Community of Economic Development (DCED) has urged shoppers to use safe options when shopping this holiday season, by utilizing online or curbside pickup options.
"Black Friday is enjoyed by both consumers and retailers alike and is a tradition that we encourage people to celebrate in the safest way this year," Sec. Dennis Davin said. "With the recent additions of Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, shoppers now have a vast array of options this holiday season to safely support their favorite retailers."
The DCED has reminds everyone that if they must go out for necessities to observe the social distancing guidelines, wear a mask, avoid crowds, and wash your hands frequently and thoroughly.
A new projection for the state of Pennsylvania projects that there could be upwards or 22,000 new cases per day during the month of December.
Shopping from home or using a pickup system is a new suggested effort in slowing the spread of coronavirus.
"This year, to keep Pennsylvanians safe and healthy, those options are more important than ever," Sec Davin said.
