The University of Pittsburgh is escalating their main campus to the Elevated risk posture and implementing a shelter-in-place period amid increasing COVID-19 cases among students.
The changes take effect at 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to an announcement from the university.
The university said there's concern cases will continue to increase.
"Of significant concern is that the increase in positive cases since the end of last week is now among our residence hall students," the university said in an online announcement Wednesday.
In a report Monday, the university's COVID-19 Medical Response Office Monday said the majority of cases are now on campus, with cases widespread in 13 residence halls.
The university's shelter-in-place policy asks students to leave their rooms only for class, food, exercise, work or shopping for essentials.
