COVID vaccinations increase while other vaccinations drop

While more Pennsylvanians are getting COVID vaccines, other vaccination rates are down. And that has health experts worried.

Fewer children and adults are getting vaccinated against viruses like the flu or measles.

Statewide data shows a decline of more than 68% among school age children.

"We need to work to recover these declines and encourage individuals to get vaccinated when they can safely do so, so that we're not facing outbreaks of other infectious diseases, like Measles or Whooping Cough on top of COIVD," explained Director Amy Walker, of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization.

She testified before the House Democratic Policy Committee in Harrisburg Monday.

She says the American Academy of Pediatrics will soon launch an outreach campaign urging parents to take their kids back to the doctor.

On Monday, Governor Tom Wolf announced that all Pennsylvania adults would be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine starting Tuesday, April 13 - one week ahead of schedule.
