Republican David McCormick declared victory Friday morning in his tight U.S. Senate race against incumbent Democrat Sen. Bob Casey, who has yet to concede.
McCormick tells Marty Griffin on KDKA Radio that there's no possible scenario in which Casey overtakes his lead.
“I think at this point, the math is indisputable, there’s no path for Senator Casey to win,” said McCormick.
He says the reason behind his victory can be summed up in one word.
“Change, we need changed, we need leadership and change so, that’s what it’s all about and I really feel privileged to have this opportunity,” said McCormick.
The Associated Press called the race Thursday in McCormick’s favor, and explained its decision to call the race by saying the outstanding votes left to count did not come from areas where Casey had enough support to overtake McCormick.
McCormick has about a 30,000-vote lead in ballots counted so far, but the Casey campaign argues that there are more than 100,000 provisional ballots still to be counted statewide. About 20,000 of those were cast in Philadelphia. The commissioners are in the process of counting them.
