HARRISBURG (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) — On Wednesday, the Department of Agriculture released their newest slate of restaurant check-ins.
The Department performs the pop-up inspections at state restaurants to check for proper public safety and sanitization protocol.
In the Jan. 25-31 window, the Bureau of Food Safety conducted 669 reviews.
25 of those inspections were brought about by complaints, however.
And 19 of those complaints were related to a lack of COVID-19 guideline compliance.
Overall, 170 complaints came in that took issue with a restaurant's COVID-19 handling.
32 of the complaints were relegated to local and county authorities, though.
In the aftermath, three Pennsylvania restaurants were closed because of the inspections.
The violations-turned-closures came with defiance to orders from the Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health for Mitigation and Enforcement and the Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for Mitigation, Enforcement and Immunity Protections, which were both issued on November 27, 2020.
Owners and managers were also given opportunities to make some of the necessary changes while inspectors were present.
However, the restaurant decision-makers opted for a more cantankerous route, hence the three closures.
The order-issued mitigation efforts for restaurants are as followed:
1. Self-certified restaurants may open at 50 percent capacity for indoor dining
2. Restaurants that have not self-certified are at 25 percent capacity for indoor dining,
4. On-premises alcohol consumption prohibited unless part of a meal; cocktails-to-go and carryout beverages are allowed, and
3. Serving alcohol for on-site consumption must end at 11 p.m., and all alcoholic beverages must be removed from patrons by midnight
A more detailed breakdown can be found on the Department of Agriculture website.
The information is updated regularly.
Complaints can also be sent in on the website.
