PITTSBURGH (Newsradio KDKA) - Many of the Covid regulatory waiversCovid regulatory waivers signed by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf to help hospitals and health care workers are set to expire at the end of the month.
As they lapse, many fear the staffing crisis at facilities could worsen.
"Workforce is most likely the number one issue for every industry throughout, not just just Pennsylvania, but the entire country," said Zach Shamberg, president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Health Care Association. "It has been the number one challenge for long-term care providers both prior to the pandemic, and certainly during the last 18 months."
The waivers allowed retired professionals to return to work and allowed out-of-state practitioners while expanding who could give vaccines.
"What we requested of the governor and of the department of health was for flexibilities to allow more workers to come to the front lines," said Shamberg.
