Last 3 PA counties removed from drought watch list

HARRISBURG (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) — On Thursday, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection removed the final counties off their drought watch list.

Those straggling counties are Center, Clearfield, and Clinton.

Now, every Pennsylvania county has returned to a normal state of hydrologic conditions.

The watches and warnings began in August 2020, and at their peak, affected 30 counties.

The DEP uses four key indicators for its drought watch classifications, including groundwater and streamflow benchmarks.

The Department also measures precipitation and soil moisture.

The Drought Task Force, which dictates the watch list, will reconvene when ecological conditions warrant it.
