New unemployment system will pause claim filing for two weeks

PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) - It's time for an upgrade.

That's what the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry is saying about it's 40-year-old unemployment system. The department has announced that on June 8th, it will unveil a new modernized system that processes unemployment compensation claims.

The department's acting secretary, Jennifer Berrier, tells Larry and Kevin on the KDKA Radio Morning Show there will be an approximate two-week period where they will pause any kind of claim filing.

"That's in order for us to migrate data from our 40-year-old technology, to this new technology. We want to make sure that we have the most current information on claim before we migrate over to the new system," Berrier said.

The price tag for the new system is $30.2 million.
