PA has nearly 9,000 new COVID cases

HARRISBURG (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) — In its Dec. 30 update, the Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed 8,984 new cases of COVID-19 in the state.

The total (since March) is now at an astonishing 631,333.

Currently, 6,022 patients are hospitalized with COVID, double the peak rate earlier in the spring.

1,174 of those who are hospitalized are in intensive care units.

The hospitalizations and deaths have mostly occurred in the 65 and older age group.

The statewide positivity rate for the week of Dec. 18 through 24 was 15.1%.

There were 319 new Pennsylvania deaths because of COVID-19.

The total is 15,762.

The Department of Health has a digital dashboard and map to get a better scope of the cases and COVID deaths throughout the commonwealth.

There have been 3,254,297 negative tests to date.
