Pennsylvania is seeing the start of a fall resurgence of Covid-19 according to Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine.

Wednesday marks the 9th day in a row that the state is reporting more than one thousand new Covid cases as 1,276 new cases were announced.

She says the surge is not limited to any one age group.

Dr Levine says because of improved testing and contact tracing, she sees no need at this time for renewed business closures or additional mitigation.

"We have no plans to have further business restrictions or stay-at-home orders at this time," said Levine. "It's impossible for me to predict the future, but we're in a much better place than we were in the spring."

The state is starting distribution of the state has started distribution of the first 250,000 rapid antigen tests to at-risk populations. That will continue through the end of the year.

"Antigen test cards are a timely, quick and easy-to-use tool for communities to receive rapid COVID-19 testing," Dr. Levine said. "These test kits, provided by the federal government and being distributed to areas in need by the Wolf Administration, will further help communities struggling with the spread of COVID-19. Antigen tests look for pieces of proteins that make up the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the virus that causes COVID-19, and are another tool in our testing toolkit to help quickly identify cases."
