The Pennsylvania Senate late Wednesday afternoon passed a measure that would allocate a lot of money for some small businesses, including bars and restaurants.
Chuck Moran is the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Licensed Beverage and Tavern Association told the KDKA Radio Morning Show that the senate passed the bill 48-0.
"While it includes a number of different items, one area that we're most interested in the bill is funding for grants," said Moran. "This is the $145 million that Governor Wolf had moved over from worker's comp to help the industry."
That money is part of the larger $912 million COVID relief package. Moran explained the money will impact his industry.
"When you spread it out, certainly it won't go far, but it's a start and we're grateful for it," he said. "It will help some establishments keep their heads above the water a little bit longer."
Moran said more still needs to be done. He said the members of the association really want to be able to open up safely and responsibly, specifically the smaller businesses that don't have tables or booths. Moran said they'd like to be able to seat people at their bar tops.
The package still has to pass the House.
