Every year around this time, The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission announces the raising of tolls for the coming year and 2024 is no different.
This time it's a 5% increase for 2024 for all E-ZPass and toll-by-plate customers. The new rates go into effect January 7.
Tolls are expected to rise by another 5 percent in 2025. Starting in 2028, tolls re expected to rise by 3 percent.
Tolls have been raised for the past 16 years, every year, because the Turnpike Commission is required by law to send $400 million a year to PennDOT.
Unless legislation is passed, tolls will continue through 2053.
