ROYERSFORD, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — It’s a convenience store face-off in Montgomery County. On Thursday, Sheetz opened its first store in the Philly suburbs — Wawa’s home turf.

In fact, the new Royersford store on West Ridge Pike is directly across the street from a Wawa.

The rivalry between the two convenience store chains has been a bit of a tug-of-war among Sheetz devotees in western Pennsylvania and Wawa faithfuls in eastern Pennsylvania.

It’s not just local bragging rights, though. According to the latest American Customer Satisfaction Index study, Wawa and Sheetz are tied for second among convenience stores nationwide.

The new Montco location is store No. 921 for the Altoona-based Sheetz. The company also plans to open another location this fall in Downingtown, Chester County.
