PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) As gun violence continues to increase in Pennsylvania, state leaders hope investing in local organizations will help solve the issue.
40 organizations, including seven in Allegheny County will split nearly $16 million worth of grants.
Governor Tom Wolf said Friday the organizations know the specific challenges of their community's best.
"And when it comes to effective violence prevention work, our focus needs to be doing much more of this stuff, we have to find community-designed, community-led, community-implemented programs," said Wolf.
Wolf vetoed a bill Thursday that would have allowed concealed carry without a permit. He believed signing the bill would have made gun violence worse.
