With the goal of restoring focus, connection and balance in the classroom, Pennsylvania maybe one step closer to achieving that.
With Senate Bill 1014 being approved by the House of Representatives Education Committee, the commonwealth is one step closer to a statewide, phone-free learning environment in schools.
The legislation establishes a phone-free school policy that has bipartisan support from educators, parents and even students.
With too much screen time contributing to anxiety, depression and cyberbullying while taking away from valuable in-person interaction, this policy will give students the opportunity to be more engaged in the classroom and build stronger relationships with their peers and teachers.
The bill now heads to the full House of Representatives for consideration.
Several districts in the Pittsburgh area have their own cellphone policies in place.
This new bill would create a statewide standard.
