Governor Tom Wolf announced "vaccine or test" Tuesday, requiring commonwealth employees working in state-owned health care and high-risk congregate care settings to be fully vaccinated by September 7 or undergo weekly COVID-19 testing.

Some of those facilities include state-owned hospitals, homes for those with intellectual disabilities, veterans homes, community health centers and corrections institutions.

"We need to do this kind of thing to get more to do the right thing," Wolf said Tuesday. "Get the vaccine. Be the shield we need you to be to make Pennsylvanians safe."

The initiative will impact around 25,000 employees. The state did not make clear how many of those employees are already vaccinated.

Wolf also announced all state employees under his jurisdiction who are fully vaccinated are eligible for an extra day off beginning October 1.
