Gov. Wolf signs COVID bill to allocate $145M for small businesses, PA residents' rent and utilities

HARRISBURG (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) — Governor Tom Wolf signed Senate Bill 109 on Friday.

SB 109 will now designate $145 million to help support small businesses and their employees who have felt the shockwaves of COVID-19.

"Business owners and employees have worked hard to protect their customers and their communities during this pandemic," Wolf said. "But the pandemic has been hard on businesses, and they need and deserve our support."

"That's why I made this funding available back in December, and I applaud the General Assembly for sending this bill to my desk. We need to get this money into the hands of the Pennsylvania business owners who need it as fast as possible," Wolf continued.

Not only will SB 109 go toward helping businesses, but it's also dedicating some of the funds to help residents who need help with rent or utility payments.

The funds are being drawn from the Workers' Compensation Security Fund, which is under the Pennsylvania Insurance Department, and being moved to the General Fund to allow for appropriation of the funds to be used for pandemic relief.
