Winter Weather Advisory expanded, snow and freezing rain expected in western Pennsylvania Thursday

The National Weather Service has expanded its Winter Weather Advisory in place for western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and portions of West Virginia.

The advisory will be in effect from Midnight Thursday through 7am on Friday.


The NWS of Pittsburgh updated its snow accumulation expectations with some areas expected to receive more than 6 inches, while the Pittsburgh region is expected to see 3-4 inches. Areas to the immediate south and east of Allegheny County could see with 4-6 inches and more expected toward Uniontown and into West Virginia.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for portions of West Virginia as some places could see up to a foot of snow.

Freezing rain is also anticipated to be part of the weather leading to ice accumulation.

On Friday, the snow should lighten up as AccuWeather says just a coating to an inch of snow is expected throughout the day.
