Governor Wolf proposed an increase in Pennsylvania's personal income tax rate to allow more money to go to public schools, the TribLive reports.
The new proposal, which would expand exemptions for lower-wage earners, was announced before Wolf's administrations Wednesday budget address.
Wolf will ask the Republican-controlled Legislature for a $3 billion increase in personal income tax for public schools and to help fill a multibillion-dollar deficit due to the pandemic.
The new proposal has an increase of an extra $2 billion, an increase of over 20%.
Of the increase budget requested, $1.35 billion would be given to schools to pay for things like teacher salaries, operating costs, supplies. Schools currently receive $6.8 billion.
