Baseball American names Konnor Griffin #1 overall prospect

Three other Pirates made the list

Four Pirates prospects are on Baseball America’s 2026 Top 100 list, including the number one spot.

The Pirates and baseball’s #1 prospect is Konnor Griffin.

Griffin doesn’t turn 20 until late April and is currently at the Double-A level in Altoona, but has been invited to Bradenton to participate in Spring Training.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported late last year, that Griffin will get a chance to make the Opening Day roster.

Griffin hit .338 in Low-A Bradenton, 325 in High-A Greensboro and finished the season at Double-A Altoona with a .337 average.

Griffin was taken 9th overall in the 2024 draft out of Jackson Prep, in Jackson, Mississippi and doesn’t turn 20 until late April.

He was the Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year.

The next player for the Pirates on the list is pitcher Bubba Chandler coming in at #15.

Chandler made his MLB debut for the Pirates last August.

He went 4-1 over seven games and four starts with a 4.02 ERA.

Climbing up the ranks is Edward Florentino at #28.

Baseball America says Florentino is the top hitting prospect in the Florida Complex League, has the highest hi+ score in the top 100 list and is the top corner outfield prospect in all of baseball.

Florentino was in the FCL last season before a promotion to Low-A Bradenton, where he hit .262 over 54 games. He had 51 hits, 10 home runs, 36 walks and 36 RBI.

Rounding out the Pirates on Baseball America’s list is pitcher Seth Hernandez at #38.

Taken sixth overall by the Pirates last year, the 19-year-old signed a $7.25 million bonus, the highest in history for a high-school pitcher.
