It was something I was looking forward to after I found out a Mason Rudolph would be getting his first start of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger would have to talk about Rudolph and his play during his “Footbahlin’” podcast.
Roethlisberger did address Rudolph’s play in the team’s win, but there weren’t any veiled shots taken during the broadcast.
Roethlisberger and Rudolph were known for their lack of a relationship while Ben was still with the team.
It was also said that Roethlisberger didn’t offer any advice when Rudolph was drafted.
He also said on his old 93.7 The Fan weekly radio show that he thought the Steelers wasted a pick with taking Rudolph in the third round in 2018.
We got a little more from Ben on Rudolph during his livestream of the Seahawks game.
Roethlisberger said he didn’t have a problem with the Steelers drafting Rudolph, but didn’t like that they u sed the pick on him.
"We had a really good football team and he got drafted early. I just felt like we could have maybe picked a player who could have helped us at the moment. We were still a team that was competing. I was not worried about him taking my job, that was not an issue for me,” said Roethlisberger.
As to the rumors about Roethlisberger not willing to help Rudolph he said he tried to help but refused it.
“Then he didn’t want my help anymore so I backed off,” said Roethlisberger.
Rudolph said on the Steel Here podcast earlier this year, “We weren’t close, but would you expect a 37 or 38-year-old to be best friends with a 23-year-old?”
While the team was getting ready for Seattle, Rudolph talked about the current quarterback room and said that hey are all very close and that, that wasn’t always the case.
Cough…Roethlisberger…cough.
