Bengals game isn't must win for Steelers, but it would certainly help

The Steelers don’t need to win on Saturday night against the Cincinnati Bengals, but it would certainly help going into the playoffs.

Head Coach Mike Tomlin has indicated that all healthy players will take the field at Acrisure but has also left the door open to sit some star players, especially if the Ravens beat the Browns, which is expected.

But even without a home playoff game to play for, a loss would mean a four-game losing streak heading into “the tournament.”

Communication issues have been noticeable with the defense. Opposing players are left wide open for easy touchdowns with defensive backs looking at each other, seemingly lost.

The offense hasn’t been able to get much going in recent weeks and could use a big offensive output against a below average Bengals defense.

But, that Bengals D has 10 take-aways since they last played the Steelers a month ago.

And for the Steelers defense, a strong showing against Joe Burrow and a powerful Cincy offense would be a confidence booster heading into the postseason.

Burrow is playing well enough to be the league MVP this season. He has 42 touchdown passes. The problem is, his team is 8-8.

But, the Bengals still have a chance to make the playoffs, they need to win and will need some help from other teams.

If the Bengals somehow miraculously make the playoffs, even at 9-8, would not be a team anyone wants to play.

Cincinnati is also riding a 4-game winning streak.

If the Steelers give up a 40-spot to the Bengals and lose badly, hardly anyone is going to expect the Steelers to, once again, do much in the playoffs, whether that game is in Houston or in Baltimore.
