A couple truth bombs from Ben Roethlisberger?
Big Ben was critical of the Steelers coaching and had other comments during his most recent episode of his Footbahlin’ podcast.
He said the clock mismanagement and wasting time outs is a result of “bad coaching”.
“Having timeouts his huge, I know it sounds crazy, sometimes it’s better to take the five-yard delay of game than it is to waste the time out because at the end of that game, if we had one more time out, we have another chance,” said Roethlisberger.
Fan Morning Show co-host Adam Crowley said that Ben isn’t wrong and that it’s the most critical the retired quarterback has been of his former coach, so far.
But Crowley doesn’t think that is the worst criticism of Tomlin by Ben.
“I can see Coach Tomlin trying coach Faulk(ner), I think this is kind of like a trial thing, I don’t think he’ll give it (Mike Sullivan) but I think he’ll would give it to Faulk, which I think Sully would be great,” said Roethlisberger.
Roethlisberger added he doesn’t see Tomlin going outside of the organization, unless Art Rooney II makes him.
“I know it’s not what he does, he doesn’t like to go get young, good, I mean again, Byron Leftwich would be great, but I think he might try to stay with Faulk, unless Mr. Rooney steps in,” said Roethlisberger.
While Roethlisberger had to get his guys mentions in there, Sullivan and Leftwich, he did reveal something we’ve known for a while, Tomlin doesn’t want to go out and get the young, hotshot offensive mind.
Why? Could be Tomlin’s hubris or desire to control every aspect of the team on the field.
It could also be something totally different. (Probably not.)
