Big Ben still letting defenders know what kind of play is coming

Roethlisberger moves differently depending on a pass or play

Ben Roethlisberger had a pretty impressive return to the field at Heinz Field on Saturday night against the Detroit Lions, completing 8 of 10 attempts for 137 yards.

He also threw two touchdowns and completed a 46-yard pass.

While Roethlisberger appears to be ready for the regular season, after his short showing on Saturday, he still appears to be a tell, letting the defense know if a pass or run is coming.

A user on TikTok pointed out this past July, that Roethlisberger’s back heel is lifted slightly when he’s going to throw, both feet are planted when he is going to hand it off.

Theo Ash watched clips from last season’s game against Buffalo, claiming he hadn’t seen the game before and accurately predicted what each play was.

As Pro Football Talk point out, Big Ben lined up in a shotgun formation 11 times out of 16 with two run plays and nine pass plays.

Once again, Roethlisberger lifts his heel before the snap on pass play.

Mike Florio, who wrote the article also said that Roethlisberger also acts differently before a snap depending on if it’s a pass or run.

With three weeks to go, Roethlisberger and the Steelers still have time to fix the tell before opposing defenders get wise to it (which they may be already).

Arthur Moats said after the video came out last month that even with the tell, it’s still hard for a defender to notice the slight move when you’re in the middle of a quickly moving game.

But then again, you never know!
