PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers are waiting for quarterback Russell Wilson to practice full, same with the Chargers starting quarterback. Justin Herbert was limited in practice Thursday with an ankle injury.
He was not seen participating in drills during the open portion of practice on Thursday. This was after he didn’t practice on Wednesday after his ankle was rolled up on during their 26-3 win over Carolina on Sunday.
Herbert and the Chargers are 2-0 as the quarterback has completed 67% of his passes for 274 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in two games. The 26-year-old had a pair of monster seasons-in 2021 (5,014 yards, 38 TD) and 2022 (4739 yards and 25 TD). During that ’21 season, he beat the Steelers 41-37 throwing for 382 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for a career-high 90 yards.
While he’s with a new head coach in Jim Harbaugh, Herbert has been around the game enough that even if he didn’t practice Friday, he could still play Sunday. The backup quarterback is Easton Stick, a 29-year-old from North Dakota State and has played in four games. He had four starts last year, 1129 yards, three touchdowns and an interception rushing for 144 yards.
