Pitt alum and McKees Rocks native Damar Hamlin is one step closer to returning to the football field.
“He is cleared to resume full activities just like anyone else who was coming back from an injury or whatever,” said Buffalo Bills General Manager Brandon Beane on Tuesday. “He’s fully cleared, he’s here (in Buffalo) and he is of the mindset, he’s in a great headspace to come back and make his return.”
A team of doctors unanimously agreed that Hamlin was able to return to football activities.
During a Monday Night Football game against the Bengals in Cincinnati on January 2, Hamlin collapsed on the field after he took a hit to the chest by Bengals receiver Tee Higgins.
He went into cardiac arrest and needed to be necessitated on the field.
He was taken to a Cincinnati hospital and was later transported to a facility in Buffalo and ultimately released a little over a week after the incident.
The news that Hamlin and return to football is a relief for the safety, who attended Acrisure Stadium this past weekend for Pitt’s Blue and Gold game along with other alumni like Aaron Donald.
