PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Corner, safety, slot defensive back Cam Sutton back now fully with the Steelers after his suspension. He said he’s been around the team, working and staying ready.
As for his role?

He doesn’t know. Sutton said he will find out over the next few days where he’s positioned and how many snaps he might get.

“I’m ready to roll,” Sutton said Monday. “Whatever it is. Whatever it’s like, just be ready to roll.”

Sutton has played outside corner, but with Joey Porter, Junior and Donte Jackson, expect to see Sutton more in the nickel role. That is where rookie Beanie Bishop has played. The West Virginia All-American had three interceptions in the last two games. The 29-year-old Sutton said he’s been impressed with Bishop, but likely will compete for time with him.

“I play football,” Sutton said. “I don’t care what position it is. It could be offensive line, I really don’t care. I play football.”

Obviously, it’s been difficult sitting out eight games during a league-mandated suspension for a domestic situation that caused him to lose his job with the Lions. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said in June when they signed Sutton as a free agent there was more to the story and they did their due diligence into the situation.

Sutton said what has impressed him about the Steelers defense in the first half of this season is their ability to give teams different looks. He said they’ve done what you wanted as a defense-getting after the quarterbacks, winning the field position game, getting off the field and causing turnovers.

Now he returns to playing for the Steelers where over six years he had eight interceptions, 38 passes defended, 168 tackles (eight tackles for loss), five forced fumbles and a pair of sacks.

“Very exciting, I love our group,” Sutton said. “I love the continuity of our guys. I spent a lot of time with our guys. A group that’s hungry and loves playing with each other. Just excited to be around and back with the guys.”
