Former Steelers defensive back Patrick Peterson, who would like to rejoin Pittsburgh (more on that later), took what appears to be a shot at another former Steeler, Kenny Pickett.
Peterson told Jim Rome, on the Infinity Sports Network, that he texted Head Coach Mike Tomlin after the team signed quarterback Russell Wilson.
“I say, now you finally got you a quarterback that has credibility, a guy who’s going to be in the lineup,” said Peterson.
He also talked about the respect his has for Tomlin and how good of a coach he is.
He pointed out the seasons that Tomlin didn’t have Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback as examples.
“If you go back and look at the seasons that he had, look who the quarterbacks were,” said Peterson. “He had to play with at least two to three quarterbacks every year that Ben wasn’t the quarterback.”
The Steelers went through Pickett (who was injured later in the season), Mitch Trubisky and finally had success with Mason Rudolph, sneaking into the playoffs.
What was Tomlin’s response to Peterson’s text?
“He said ‘we got us one’ so, lets see how the season unfolds,” said Peterson.
The future Hall of Famer says he hopes he can play another year in Pittsburgh because he wants to be with Tomlin.
“Hopefully I can get something done with the Steelers, but that’s the team I definitely want to play for because I have so much respect for Coach Tomlin,” said Peterson.
The Steelers released Peterson after this past season.
