The Pirates future continues to look bright in the minors and the trade for Jameson Taillon could go down as an absolute steal for the Bucs.

When the Pirates moved Taillon to the Yankees for four prospects, some fans scoffed that another elite arm was heading out of town.

In Baseball America’s “first-significant in-season update” to their Top 100 list, Double-A Altoona Curve right-handed pitcher Roansy Contreras, who came over in the deal, has made the list, coming in at #99.

In eight starts so far this season, Contreras is 3-1 with a 2.00 ERA with 64 strike outs and nine walks.

Taillon, coming off his second Tommy John surgery, is currently 2-4 with a 5.18 ERA with 69 strikeouts and 20 walks.

Four other prospects in the Pirates’ system, who were already in the top 100, moved up as well.

Curve infielder Oneil Cruz moves to #38 from #40, High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers infielder Nick Gonzales moves up from #41 to #39 along with fellow infielder Liover Peguero moves up from #89 to #87 and right-handed pitcher Quinn Priester moves up to #58 from #60.
