Pirates catcher Endy Rodriguez is the latest player to go on the team’s injured list.

Manager Don Kelly told reporters on Wednesday that the Pirates catcher will be going on the IL with a left glute strain.

The Pirates also called up catcher Rafael Flores Jr. to the team’s taxi squad.

Pirates Manager Don Kelly said that Rodriguez was available on Tuesday, but is now headed to the IL.

He appeared to suffer an injury while batting against the Nationals in Washington on Sunday.

Rodriguez has become an important part of the Pirates lineup this season. In 35 games he has an average of .260 with an OPS of .858, five home runs, 16 RBI and 26 hits.

The move comes a day after the Pirates place rookie Konnor Griffin on the IL. The shortstop is expected to miss two months or more with a torn tendon on his left ring finger.
