PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – How things change quickly in sports. Steelers tackle Troy Fautanu came off a solid first career start this week and was looking like he would keep that job. Even though Broderick Jones was given the opportunity to compete to get it back, Fautanu remained the start. Then it changed on Friday and now the right tackle has been placed on injured reserve.
Fautanu came out for practice on Friday with no issues, ready for his home debut. The rookie first-round pick would 'tweak' his knee during practice and Broderick Jones told reporters he would have an MRI. Steelers listed Fautanu as a limited participant in practice on Friday. Early on Saturday, Fautanu was ruled out of the game against the Chargers. Later Saturday, news he is out indefinitely.
The rookie from the University Washington sprained his MCL during the first preseason game and had just returned for his first NFL start at Denver. Jones regains the starting job he had for parts of 2023 and the first game of 2024.
Jones said he's been in this situation before. He feels that he's improved this week in practice after being pulled for three penalties in six plays against the Broncos.
"I really don't care what people think," Jones said. "At the end of the day, I got to go out there and do my job to the best of my ability."
Steelers also activated tackle John Leglue, who had re-signed with the team recently. He spent three seasons with the Steelers from 2020-22.
