PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He was fired by the Pirates after a 12-26 start to the 2025 season and no winning seasons in five-plus years. Wednesday night Derek Shelton was hired by the Twins to be its manager according to MLB.com.

It’s a return for Shelton, he was hired away from Minnesota in 2020 to be the Pirates manager. He was the Twins bench coach from 2018-19 under Rocco Baldelli, who was fired after seven seasons a month ago. Previously Shelton worked for the Tampa Bay Rays.

The 55-year-old was 306-440 overall with the Bucs. His two best seasons were identical 76-86 in 2023 and 2024. His worst seasons were his first, in the COVID shorted 2020, 19-41 (.317 winning percentage) and his last shortened season 12-26 (.316).

According to MLB.com, the Twins were down to Shelton, Yankees hitting coach James Rowson, Cubs bench coach Ryan Flaherty and former Mariners manager Scott Servais.
