LATROBE (93.7 The Fan) – Saturday a video went viral showing Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth saving a kid during a fight, over an autograph after practice at Steelers camp. On Monday, the Steelers showed the team that video during a pre-practice meeting.
Offensive lineman Troy Fautanu said the guys got a good laugh out of it.
“That was hilarious, ‘the unsung hero of the week’ I think we called him for just being aware and taking care of the kid, which was great,” said quarterback Will Howard. “It’s great situational awareness. We talk about it all the time on and off the field.”
Howard confirmed the room cracked up about it.
“I saw people tumbling down and fighting and I looked down at the kid I was signing for, he looked a little scared,” Freiermuth said. “It was the least I could do.”
Then Freiermuth added to the story.
“What’s even worse, if you are going to fight over someone’s autograph, it can’t be Will Howard,” Freiermuth said laughing.
The Steelers tight end said the fans were fighting over second-year quarterback Will Howard autograph.
“That’s what he told me,” Howard said of Freiermuth’s account. “I didn’t find that out until this morning.”
“It’s crazy, obviously I don’t condone any of that, but it’s a good feeling to be wanted,” Howard said smiling but a little uneasy. “At this point, I just want to give them something to cheer about because I really haven’t been able to go out on the field and give them any product to really cheer for.”
He’s given them enough to fight for apparently.
