Joe Haden has seemed to accept that his days in Pittsburgh are numbered and he is counting down the days.
Earlier this week, the soon-to-be Steelers free agent cornerback posted to Twitter, “7 days and counting.”
On Tuesday, Haden talked about Seattle releasing All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner saying, “If it can happen 2 a 7x ALL PRO… still playing like a 7x ALL PRO…It can HAPPEN to ANYBODY! It’s a business… we are chess pieces… not MAD JUST HIP YOU TO REALITY! They Love you til they don’t!”
Haden reportedly wanted a contract extension with Pittsburgh before the beginning of last season, but the Steelers had him play out the final year of his contract in 2021.
Haden made a base salary of $7 million and will be testing out free agency to see what kind of deal he can get in the open market.
While the 32-year-old is still playing quality football, good enough to be a starter in the NFL, his play has slipped a little bit over the past season.
As Bleacher Report points, out, his passer rating went from 75.9 in 2020 to 100.1 last year.
Haden missed five games last season, a majority of those due to a foot injury.
While Haden’s initial asking price on the market may be too high for the Steelers, if his price does comes down, the Steelers should look into re-signing with their history of struggling at corner.
Haden had 38 total tackles, six passed defended, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and zero interceptions last season.
