The internet is not happy

The way the internet is reacting today, you’d think the Steelers are taking down the statue of founder Art Rooney.

KDKA-TV’s Scott Danka captured a crane outside the former Heinz Field, now Acrisure Stadium, on Monday morning removing one of the iconic Heinz Ketchup bottles that were affixed on the top of the score board.

Speaking last week, owner Art Rooney II spoke about their partnership with Heinz, thanking them for over two decades of partnership.

He also said they are talking with Heinz on them remaining as a partner in some other capacity.

“We’re having those discussions, who knows, the ketchup bottle could be a part of those, we’ll see,” said Rooney last week.

But if the bottles will be a part of Acrisure Stadium, it won’t be on top of the scoreboard.

Acrisure is spending a lot of money to take over naming rights, so they probably don’t want any large symbol remaining of the previous sponsor.

Pittsburghers on social media were not happy with the move, including former Steelers offensive lineman Ramon Foster.
